Sponsorships in football are like big name partnerships that help football clubs and players earn lots of money. It’s everywhere in football nowadays from the names of stadiums to the products players use. These partnerships bring in lots of cash for the teams and make players famous. But sometimes the companies involved can sell things like gambling, unhealthy food, energy drinks and alcohol which can be a problem especially for young fans.

The Benefits of Football Sponsorships
Clubs get paid a ton of cash to have a company’s name on their shirts or stadium, which helps them sign better players and build fancy stadiums. Players also get to earn extra money by endorsing products and wearing cool gear. Imagine your football hero wearing the latest boots in a TV ad – that’s because of sponsorships. Plus, all those shirts and stuff with sponsors’ logos on them, fans buy them like crazy, so everyone wins when it comes to money in football!
Controversies Surrounding Football Sponsorships

Gambling sponsors can make people want to bet a lot, and that can be bad for their wallets and their health. Alcohol and unhealthy product sponsors might make people think drinking and eating those things is cool, but too much of them can be really bad for our bodies. Even some super fancy clothes deals might make people feel like they need to spend loads of money to look cool like their favorite players.
If they’re constantly seeing gambling ads or thinking they need expensive stuff to fit in, it can make them feel stressed or anxious. Some people might even end up spending too much money or developing unhealthy habits because they want to be like the players they admire. While the Clubs thinks they are doing the right thing for themselves it has a huge effect on other people lives including kids, Premier League has put a stop to gambling sponsorships on front of shirts starting from 2026/27 season, this is a good thing better later than never but i can still see gambling companies putting their logos on the sleeves.
Striking a Balance: Football’s Responsibility

These footballers bodies are ran like a temple do you really think they would eat unhealth food and drink alcohol all the time? with the advertising and sponsorships people are naive and they would assume that they drink and eat all this stuff to achieve their ‘prefect body’ they can set rules to make sure sponsorships don’t encourage you to do things that aren’t good for you, like betting too much or eating unhealthy stuff. Football clubs also have a big role – they can choose sponsors carefully and make sure they’re promoting good stuff, like healthy snacks to send a positive message. So by having rules and clubs that care, we can enjoy football and its sponsorships without worrying too much about them making us do things we shouldn’t.
