The fixture unfolded with Inter’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan swiftly igniting the scoring fireworks, redirecting Federico Dimarco’s shot into the net within the opening 5 mins. Mkhitaryan, in fine form, came agonizingly close to adding another just moments later but saw his header from a pinpoint Dimarco cross narrowly miss the mark.
A standout moment arrived when Marcus Thuram, in a magnificent display of individual brilliance, seized a loose cross in a wide position, eluding his marker, and unleashed a thunderous strike that soared into the top corner 38th mins. The tight angle and the sheer audacity of the shot left AC Milan’s goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, utterly powerless.
Dumfries really played well down the right side as a wing back, sometimes he would appear as another striker in the first half, creating chances for Thuram.
Rafael Leao, however, provided a glimmer of hope for the underwhelming Milan side with a well-taken goal after the interval, marking the first time they had breached Inter’s defense in five attempts.

Yet, Inter, resolute and relentless, would not be denied. Mkhitaryan returned to center stage, slotting home his second goal, albeit with a deflection, following a fluid team move, thereby re-establishing a comfortable two-goal cushion.
Former Milan stalwart Hakan Calhanoglu further compounded Milan’s misery, expertly converting a late penalty. As if to put the exclamation point on their dominance, Inter’s lively substitute, Davide Frattesi, punctuated the proceedings with a fifth goal in stoppage time, completing the rout and adding an exclamation mark to the emphatic victory.
Inter Milan, are unbeaten record of four wins from four matches, they stay top in Serie A table. Conversely AC Milan, suffering their first defeat of the season, now find themselves displaced from the top spot, surpassed by Juventus.
Inter Milan’s dominance over their city rivals, this has become a pattern that has seen Inter win their fifth consecutive win in the Derby della Madonnina. What’s particularly galling for Milan is that all five of these triumphs have transpired in the year 2023, a stark reminder of Inter’s relentless dominance. The disparity in quality between the two sides has never been more glaringly evident, with Inter emerging as genuine title contenders while Milan’s aspirations may have been premature.

Not surprising that AC Milan had 60% possession at the end of the end, they were the team that was chasing the game, needing the goals to win or even draw the game, they managed to create 9 chances but only 2 was on target. While Inter had 40% they already did the damage very early on on the game, so they can afford to let AC Milan have possession and try to counter them, 14 shots but 7 shots on target 5 goals, that pretty clinical.
Simone Inzaghi played a 3-5-2 system, played 2 very creative players in Çalhanoğlu and Mkhitaryan, with Barella as the only defensive minded player out of the 3. Stefano Pioli used a 4-3-3, AC Milan main outline was pretty much Rafael Leão, he was quick but he wasnt able to get into good spaces or when he did his team mates didnt find him.
Player of the Match in the Milan Derby

Marcus Thuram was a shining light, earning the “Player of the Match.” His performance showed why Inter Milan signed him in the summer, his finesse, flair and power was seen in this match. Thuram’s contributions to Inter’s win were nothing short of extraordinary.
